Top Food & Drink Experiences and Breaks in West Cornwall
01 October 2017
These days it’s no secret that Cornwall is among the very best foodie destinations in the UK. From top Cornish restaurants to expert tasting sessions, brewery tours and some truly exceptional markets and specialist food shops, there is a lot to sample! Here are some of our favourite food experiences and places to visit during your trip to Mullion Cove Hotel!
Trenance Chocolate
Lovers of chocolate can find some of the finest handmade treats in the west right on our doorstep at this den of sweet delights. Staffed by a small but passionate team, Trenance chocolatiers produce both classic flavour combos and flights of chocolate fancy. Indeed, whether your thing is fondant or real fruit, marzipan or mocha, temptation awaits in a host of beautiful designs. The shop itself is a great place for gift shopping too, while they also run occasional special events.
Helston Farmers Market
If you have a taste for handmade, independently produced food and drink, this is one of the best markets in Cornwall. From smoked goodies to pies, preserves and delicious local tipples, you could assemble an awesome picnic or hamper from the top artisan suppliers here. Bring a cool bag on the final day of your visit and you could also take home some delectable Cornish cheese and other treats. Join the fun from 9:30-1pm on the first Saturday of each month, or see the official website for dates and stallholders.
The Blue Anchor Inn and Brewery
With microbreweries now all the rage nationwide, it’s easy to forget just how old the world of craft beer making is in Cornwall. For the ale aficionado, a visit to the Blue Anchor is therefore an absolute must, as it is one of the oldest combined inns and breweries in the UK. Still going strong today, the place has a well-fermented history. Back in the old days, local tin miners were often paid their wages in liquid form here and four excellent ales to keep the flame alive today. If you’ve not imbibed too much of the good stuff, you might also enjoy a classic wooden skittle alley.
Cider and wine tasting sessions at Polgoon
If wine or cider are more to your taste than real ale, this visitor site some 40 minutes west of Mullion is well worth a look. Delicious home brewed ciders are produced direct from their own apples, in addition to a surprisingly varied range of acclaimed still and sparkling wines. Don’t just take their word for it though; get yourself on one of their special vineyard tours and wine tasting sessions! These take place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 pm all summer.
